Superintendent, Maintenance


Northern Silica Corporation (NSC) is seeking a Maintenance Superintendent who can grow with our expanding business.  The Maintenance Superintendent will provide leadership to the Moberly Operations and Maintenance teams to ensure key operating, maintenance and growth objectives are met.  This is a full-time position. The Maintenance Superintendent will live near the Moberly Mine (17 km northwest of Golden, B.C.).


Safety and Regulatory

  • Lead and influence the NSC Operations team, NSC Maintenance team, and contract maintenance team to build a safety-focused work culture with a zero-harm target;

  • Understand and implement NSC health and safety regulations and BC Mines Code requirements;

  • Develop and maintain maintenance procedures, ensuring safe work practices are reflected in all procedures.

Leadership and Human Resources

  • Provide leadership to the NSC Maintenance team and contract maintenance team with a focus on diligent and deliberate planning, preparation and delivery of results;

  • Identify skills gaps and staffing shortfalls, and recommend changes to personnel and staffing levels to the General Manager;

  • Identify maintenance training requirements and budgets for NSC employees and contractors;

  • Develop personalized training plans for the NSC maintenance team;

  •  Manage NSC Maintenance team staffing, including hiring, performance management, and progressive discipline;

  • Support the General Manager by acting as his/her stand-in during absences.


  • Develop and implement a Condition Based Monitoring plan;

  • Lead efforts to establish and revise a scheduled preventative maintenance plan;

  • Develop maintenance forecasts and budgets;

  • Monitor maintenance activities and spending relative to budget values and lead efforts to meet or exceed budget targets;

  • Generate maintenance reports for internal and external stakeholders;

  • Monitor and optimize warehouse inventory and spares.


  • Apply maintenance best practices and experience to identify maintenance improvement projects;

  • Develop capital spending justifications and project plans;


  • Develop strategies to identify and engage local and regional contractors and suppliers;

  • Develop commercial agreements with third parties to provide maintenance support and supplies.

Community Relations

  • Assist the General Manager to engage with local community members, businesses and government officials.



  • 10-15 years of related mining/minerals maintenance experience with knowledge of size-reduction, size-separation and dewatering equipment;

  • Strong planning, organizing, analytical and problem-solving skills;

  • Experience with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems mandatory;

  • Excellent leadership skills, including strong verbal and written communication skills;

  • Prior leadership experience in a mining environment mandatory.
